What is “Self-Love”? - Strong As Hec

What is “Self-Love”?

If you want to be happy -- you MUST love yourself and... to love yourself you MUST discipline your behavior because -- the road to sustained happiness IS through self-disciplined behavior.

So, self-discipline IS self-love.

You may be wondering, how does one self-discipline their behavior?

1️⃣ By doing the things "you know you should be doing"  -- even if you don't want to.

Here's a small list of 7 things you can do to instill self-discipline to love yourself:

  • Get GOOD sleep 6-8 hours a night, the latter is preferred.
  • Breathe for 5 minutes each morning after waking up.
  • Sit in silence and meditate on your non-visual senses.
  • Feed your body good foods 80% (or more) of the time.
  • Drink water: 1/2 your BW in oz. throughout the day.
  • Train your body to be strong -- lift weights.
  • Learn a new skill once a year like: Jiu-Jitsu, a musical instrument, or a new language.

If you gave me a few more minutes, I could easily triple or quadruple this list but -- you get the idea.

2️⃣ Get out of your comfort zone.

Here's something I started doing about 6 weeks ago to get out of *my* comfort zone.

I started to train Jiu-Jitsu on Sunday's.

In my 19+ years on the mat, not once have I trained on Sunday (Unless it was a special occasion, like a promotion or a seminar).

This was the only day I did absolutely NOTHING!

And you know what?

Many would probably say, "deserved" to kick back on this day.

But -- over time -- I didn't like the subconscious message it was sending to my kids.

At first it was tough and I didn't look forward to it because, it was uncomfortable.

Either way...

... I made a *decision* and *committed* to do something more active on this day and you know what?

It's been AWESOME!

This is my definition of "Self-Love".

What's yours?

🥋Hec

P.S. I mentioned it was uncomfortable when I first started training on Sunday's. I could have easily quit (I mean no one was making me do it) and said, "eh, this isn't working for me, I tried."

Want to know why I didn't [quit]?

About 4 weeks ago, I was teaching my daughter how to ride her bike and she was terrified at the idea of "crashing"...

... I told her, "look, mi amor, you're gonna crash, it comes with learning a new skill like, riding a bike -- it's also how life works, but -- if you commit you WILL SUCCEED. Because those who COMMIT -- SUCCEED."

You know what she did?!

When we came home, she wrote the following words IN PERMANENT MARKER on her helmet and bike, "If you commit, you will succeed."

I was AMAZED!

I knew I couldn't quit!

What message would that send this young lady who watches every-move-I-make and...

... wants to be JUST. LIKE. ME?
